Türkiye Dismisses French Remarks on Legal Proceedings as Unwarranted Interference

Ankara Rejects French Criticism of Judicial Matters as Political Interference

July 7, 2025 — Türkiye has strongly rejected recent remarks from the French Foreign Ministry regarding its legal proceedings, denouncing them as interference in domestic affairs and a clear display of double standards.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry firmly pushed back against the French criticism, saying:

“We categorically reject the statement issued today by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which constitutes meddling in our ongoing judicial processes.”

Ankara emphasized that all judicial matters in question are being conducted by independent courts in full accordance with Türkiye’s constitution and national laws. The ministry underscored that the country guarantees fair and impartial trials within the scope of its legal system.

In its response, Türkiye also accused France of hypocrisy, pointing to recent legal developments within the French political landscape.

“Given that the leader of France’s main opposition party was sentenced to prison, making them ineligible for future elections, and legal actions are ongoing against several French mayors, France’s statement clearly illustrates a double standard,” the ministry noted.

Calling on Paris to respect the principle of judicial sovereignty, Ankara urged France to avoid politically motivated remarks and to focus instead on its own domestic issues.

“We recommend that France respect the independence of Türkiye’s judiciary and refrain from issuing statements that amount to interference. It would be more appropriate for them to address their internal concerns,” the statement concluded.
