Türkiye and Pakistan Deepen Cooperation, Says Erdogan

Turkish President Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met in Azerbaijan during the Economic Cooperation Organization summit.

Efforts to broaden cooperation between Türkiye and Pakistan—especially in trade and energy—are ongoing, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized during talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday in Azerbaijan.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in Khankendi, where they also reviewed bilateral relations along with pressing regional and global developments, according to a statement by Türkiye’s Communications Directorate shared on X.

President Erdogan stressed the need for continued joint initiatives to stop Israel’s attacks on Gaza, secure a lasting ceasefire, and ensure the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian assistance to the area.

Strengthening ties across key sectors

A statement from the Pakistani prime minister’s office noted that both leaders reiterated their commitment to deepening relations across all vital fields. They underlined the importance of boosting collaboration in areas such as trade, defense, energy, connectivity, and investment.

Prime Minister Sharif also reaffirmed Pakistan’s “steadfast resolve to work hand-in-hand with Türkiye to promote shared objectives of peace, stability, and sustainable development across the region.”

Erdogan was accompanied at the meeting by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Ozdemir Goktas, Trade Minister Omer Bolat, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, and chief foreign policy and security adviser Akif Cagatay Kilic.
