TRT Balkan wins two ‘Nino Ćatić’ journalism awards for powerful Srebrenica reporting

July 10, 2025 – Sarajevo
TRT Balkan has earned two top honours at the 6th annual “Nino Ćatić” Journalism Awards, recognising outstanding media work dedicated to preserving the memory of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide.

Producer Aida Kauković won in the blog/vlog category for “Ramadan in Potočari: Then and Now”, a reflective piece documenting how survivors observe Ramadan decades after the massacre. Meanwhile, Haris Domazet received the best TV report award for “354 Days of Srebrenica”, which chronicles nearly a year in the lives of those still affected by the legacy of the genocide.

Presented by the Biti novinar (Being a Journalist) Association, the awards honour the memory of Nihad Nino Ćatić, a Srebrenica journalist whose final radio report on July 10, 1995, served as a desperate call for help as the genocide unfolded. Ćatić’s body has never been found, but his name lives on through this annual recognition of journalism that upholds truth and remembrance.

“These awards are a testament to the empathy, integrity, and professionalism TRT Balkan brings to its reporting,” said a spokesperson for the outlet. “We are honoured to continue the legacy of those who gave everything to speak the truth.”

The awards aim to encourage a new generation of journalists to resist denial and preserve the historical truth of Srebrenica.
