🇹🇷 Turkey Strikes Again: Major New Natural Gas Reserves Discovered in the Black Sea
Turkey Discovers Major Natural Gas Reserve in the Black Sea
Turkey, traditionally low on hydrocarbons, has announced a significant new natural gas discovery in the Black Sea — a reserve of 75 billion cubic metres, found at the Goktepe-3 well, 3,500 metres deep. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated the reserve’s estimated economic value is around $30 billion.
“We will be able to meet the residential demand alone for approximately 3.5 years,” Erdogan said in a post on social platform X, emphasizing Ankara’s commitment to energy independence.
The discovery follows ongoing exploration efforts by the state-backed Turkish Petroleum Corporation in collaboration with US energy companies.
