3 hours ago – Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa on Sunday indicated progress in talks on a potential security arrangement with Israel, local media reported.

Speaking to an Arab media delegation, al Sharaa said there are “advanced discussions on a possible security agreement between Damascus and Tel Aviv,” stressing that “any understanding will be based on the 1974 truce line,” Syria TV reported.

The Syrian leader added that while the time is not right for a full peace accord with Israel, he “will not hesitate to take” any deal that strengthens Syria’s position and regional stability.

On Tuesday, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al Shaibani met an Israeli delegation in Paris for US-mediated talks on de-escalation, noninterference in Syrian affairs, and mechanisms to reinforce stability, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The discussions reportedly also focused on “monitoring the ceasefire in Suwayda province in southern Syria and reactivating the 1974 agreement.”

Background on 1974 agreement
The Syria–Israel Disengagement Agreement, signed after the 1973 Arab-Israeli war, set out troop pullbacks and established the Alpha and Bravo lines separating Syrian and Israeli positions.

A UN-supervised buffer zone was created between the lines under the mandate of the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), tasked with preventing renewed hostilities.
