PM Sharif: Pakistan Aims to Strengthen Trade, Technology, and Defence Links with Türkiye

Shehbaz Sharif Welcomes Turkish Foreign and Defence Ministers in Islamabad, Emphasizes Strong Pakistan-Türkiye Bonds
July 9, 2025 – Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his country’s firm commitment to deepen collaboration with Türkiye across multiple sectors, including trade, technology, investment, and defence.
During a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defence Minister Yasar Guler, Sharif highlighted the enduring brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye, rooted in shared history, culture, and mutual respect, according to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The meeting was attended by senior Pakistani officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. Muhammad Asim Malik, among others.
Sharif expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in bilateral ties, recalling his recent exchanges with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, including their latest discussion during the 17th ECO Summit. He reiterated Islamabad’s determination to elevate Pakistan-Türkiye relations into a strategic partnership.
Welcoming the upcoming session of the Joint Commission, co-chaired by Ishaq Dar and Hakan Fidan, the premier expressed optimism that cooperation between the two nations would further accelerate across various domains.
Emphasizing mutual support for each other’s key national interests, Sharif stressed the importance of enhanced coordination amid a rapidly changing regional and global landscape.
He also extended sincere thanks to the Turkish government and people for their unwavering support during Pakistan’s recent conflict with India.
Sharif underlined the goal to boost bilateral trade to $5 billion and encouraged Turkish businesses to take advantage of Pakistan’s investor-friendly policies and expand their presence.
Additionally, he invited Turkey to share its expertise to aid Pakistan’s ongoing structural reforms, economic growth, and development efforts
