Israeli forces conducted an overnight raid on a town in southern Syria near the occupied Golan Heights.

Israeli forces carried out an overnight raid on Suwaisa village in the Quneitra countryside of southern Syria, local media reported.
State-run Al-Ikhbariya TV said the troops fired flare shells and conducted searches amid confrontations with residents, detaining a young citizen. This marks the fourth Israeli incursion in Quneitra in August, within the disengagement zone near the occupied Golan Heights.
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, stated on X that the army “will remain at the peak of Mount Hermon and in the security zone” to protect the Golan, Galilee settlements, and the Druze community in Syria.
For the past seven months, Israeli forces have occupied Mount Hermon and a 15-kilometre-wide buffer zone in southern Syria, affecting over 40,000 residents. Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in late 2024, Israel expanded its control over the demilitarised zone, violating the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, despite the new Syrian administration posing no direct threat. The military has also conducted airstrikes that have killed civilians and damaged Syrian military infrastructure.
