Emine Erdogan presses Pope Leo XIV for greater Christian backing of Gaza ceasefire

Türkiye’s First Lady says a two-state solution is the cornerstone of a just and lasting peace in Palestine.
Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan has called on the Christian world to adopt a stronger stance to help end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, while welcoming the Vatican’s support for a two-state solution as the basis for a just and lasting peace in Palestine.
Following her meeting with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican during the “Fraternity-Based Economy: Ethics and Multilateralism” programme, Erdogan said their talks centred on Gaza and the urgent need for a lasting ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian aid.
She also underscored Türkiye’s “Zero Waste” climate initiative, noting broad potential for Türkiye and the Vatican to cooperate in tackling the climate crisis, which she described as a shared global concern beyond faith or borders.
Erdogan thanked Pope Leo XIV for his hospitality and expressed hope that his leadership would yield positive outcomes for the Catholic world and humanity as a whole.
