Türkiye on Monday offered condolences to Afghanistan following the devastating quake that killed hundreds in the country’s east.
“We are profoundly saddened by the heavy loss of life caused by the earthquake that struck near Jalalabad last night (August 31),” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“We pray for Allah’s mercy on the deceased and extend heartfelt condolences to the Afghan people,” the statement added.
Officials and local media confirmed that at least 800 people were killed in the disaster.
