Trump set to honor ex-New York mayor Rudy Giuliani with top civilian award

Trump has announced that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian distinction.

Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump praised Giuliani as “the greatest Mayor in the history of New York City” and “an equally great American Patriot,” adding that details of the ceremony will be revealed soon.

The announcement came shortly after Giuliani was seriously injured in a car accident in New Hampshire, where he suffered multiple fractures, cuts, and bruises after the vehicle he was riding in was struck from behind at high speed.

Giuliani, once a prominent Republican prosecutor and two-term mayor, later became a close adviser to Trump and has since been associated with far-right rhetoric. His record includes remarks targeting migrants and Palestinians, which critics have labeled xenophobic and anti-Arab.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to US values, national security, world peace, or other significant public and private endeavors.
