Erdogan commemorates 26th anniversary of Marmara earthquake, honors victims

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday marked the 26th anniversary of the devastating 1999 Marmara earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 7.4.
“Even today, we still carry in our hearts the pain of our citizens who lost their lives in the August 17 Marmara earthquake. On this anniversary of the great tragedy, I pray for God’s mercy upon those we lost and once again extend my condolences to their families and loved ones,” Erdogan said.
The earthquake, one of the deadliest in Türkiye’s history, claimed tens of thousands of lives and left deep scars across the country.
