Türkiye, Egypt align on regional crises, reject Gaza occupation plan
El Alamein, Egypt – August 9, 2025 — Türkiye and Egypt have pledged unified action on Middle East challenges, with both countries rejecting Israel’s plan to occupy Gaza and calling for the lifting of all restrictions on crossings into the enclave.
Following talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Egyptian FM Badr Abdelatty described the current stage of bilateral ties as “a significant moment of strategic alignment,” outlining plans to boost Turkish investments and expand cooperation in energy, transport, tourism, and manufacturing, aiming to raise trade to $15 billion.
The ministers condemned Israeli actions as “flagrant violations” of international law, warning that continued occupation and blockade undermine regional stability. Abdelatty accused Israel of pursuing “systematic starvation and genocide,” while Fidan announced Türkiye would convene an emergency OIC meeting to counter the Gaza plan.
Talks also addressed conflicts in Libya, Sudan, Syria, and the Horn of Africa, with both sides urging ceasefires, elections, and respect for national sovereignty. This year marks the centenary of Egypt-Türkiye diplomatic relations.
Türkiye has sent 102,000 tons of aid to Gaza so far, with Egypt facilitating delivery. Both nations vowed to maintain close coordination on humanitarian and diplomatic efforts.
