Fidan: Türkiye Ready to Help Restore Calm in Syria

Türkiye Offers Support to Restore Stability in Syria, Says FM Fidan

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has expressed Ankara’s readiness to help restore calm in Syria, reaffirming Türkiye’s commitment to the country’s territorial integrity, unity, and sovereignty during a phone call with his Syrian counterpart Asaad al Shaibani on Friday.

According to Turkish diplomatic sources, Fidan said Türkiye is closely following developments in southern Syria, where ongoing clashes between Bedouin tribal forces and armed Druze groups have led to dozens of casualties and a rapid escalation of violence.

Fidan strongly condemned Israel’s involvement in the conflict, calling it “unacceptable” and urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to stop actions that endanger Syria’s stability and the region’s future.

The conflict in Sweida erupted last Sunday as minor skirmishes, but quickly escalated when regime forces intervened and were attacked by Druze fighters, resulting in heavy casualties. A ceasefire was briefly reached but soon collapsed.

Amid the unrest, Israel launched a series of airstrikes across Syria, including targets in Damascus, under the justification of protecting Druze communities. In response, the Syrian presidency announced a new de-escalation agreement, mediated by Arab and American actors, leading to the withdrawal of regime troops from Sweida.

Türkiye’s statement signals a willingness to play a constructive role in ending the violence and supporting a political resolution to the Syrian crisis.
