Türkiye says Israeli military actions are actively obstructing Syria’s reconstruction efforts

Türkiye Accuses Israel of Sabotaging Syria’s Reconstruction Efforts at UN
Türkiye has sharply condemned Israel’s ongoing military strikes in Syria, claiming they are deliberately obstructing the country’s path to peace and recovery. Speaking at the UN Security Council on Thursday, Ankara’s envoy Ahmet Yildiz warned that recent Israeli attacks—particularly those targeting Syria’s Presidential Palace and Ministry of Defense—show Israel has “no interest in peace or regional stability.”
“After 14 years of suffering, Syrians now have a real opportunity for peace,” Yildiz said, highlighting recent progress in political dialogue and national reconciliation. He emphasized that Türkiye supports Syria’s reconstruction and political transition, and noted a growing international consensus for respecting Syria’s sovereignty.
However, he accused Israel of actively disrupting this progress through repeated air strikes since December, which he said threaten Syria’s fragile stability, increase civilian casualties, and violate international law. Yildiz urged all UN member states to reject Israeli aggression and uphold the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement.
Türkiye’s remarks came amid escalating violence in Syria’s southern Sweida province, where clashes between local groups and Syrian forces have led to heavy casualties. Israeli strikes in the region—including recent bombings in Damascus and Sweida—have further destabilized the situation.
In a joint statement released by the Saudi Foreign Ministry earlier Thursday, Türkiye and ten Arab countries reaffirmed their support for Syria’s sovereignty and condemned repeated Israeli attacks. The ministers called for the full implementation of a ceasefire in Sweida and urged respect for Syria’s territorial integrity.
