Erdogan: Steps Toward a Terror-Free Türkiye Will Yield Positive Outcomes
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed optimism that Türkiye’s recent strides toward eliminating terrorism will lead to meaningful progress and regional peace.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Erdogan stated:
“May Allah grant us success on this path we walk for our nation’s security, our people’s peace, and the establishment of lasting peace in our region.”
His remarks came following the disarmament of a group of PKK terrorists in northern Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah province, where they destroyed their weapons in a symbolic act, tossing them into a burning cauldron. The group reportedly included 15 women.
This move follows a May announcement in which the PKK declared its dissolution and intent to disarm. That decision was influenced by a February statement from imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan, who called for the group and its affiliates to end their four-decade armed campaign.
The PKK, designated a terrorist organisation by Türkiye, the US, and the EU, has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including civilians, women, and children.
