Türkiye Calls for End to Deadly Clashes in Syria’s Suwayda Region
Türkiye has expressed deep concern over escalating violence in Syria’s southern Suwayda province, where recent clashes between Bedouin tribal fighters and Druze militias have left more than 30 people dead and nearly 100 injured, according to initial reports from Syria’s Interior Ministry.
In a statement on Monday, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli urged the Syrian government to end the unrest through local-level dialogue and restore security in the area.
“We hope the violent incidents in southern Syria will be swiftly brought to an end through dialogue at the local level, and that stability will be ensured,” Keceli said, reaffirming Türkiye’s support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Türkiye pledged to continue working with international partners to promote stability and reconciliation across Syria.
The Syrian Interior Ministry described the conflict in Suwayda’s Al-Maqous area as “bloody developments” between local armed groups and tribal factions. It announced that government forces, in coordination with the Defense Ministry, would intervene to halt the violence, restore order, and bring those responsible to justice.
Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes launched an airstrike on the outskirts of Suwayda city, targeting the town of Al-Mazraa, according to state-run Al-Ikhbariya TV. No information has been released about casualties or damage from the attack.
On the ground, Syrian security forces began operations Monday to stabilize the region. Local sources reported that the fighting escalated after rival groups seized vehicles from each other, sparking intense exchanges involving medium and heavy weaponry.
