Erdogan to Austrian Chancellor: Peace Chance in Ukraine Must Not Be Missed

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker on Thursday, during which he stressed the urgent need to seize the opportunity to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

According to a statement by Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, the two leaders exchanged views on bilateral ties as well as key regional and international issues.

Erdogan underscored the importance of pushing for peace while momentum still exists, warning that a failure to act decisively could allow the conflict to drag on further.

Humanitarian Focus on Gaza and Syria

In the call, Erdogan also voiced concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stating that rapid and unhindered delivery of aid is urgently needed to relieve suffering in the war-torn enclave.

Touching on Syria, the Turkish president reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to promoting stability in the region. He emphasized that boosting economic and social conditions inside Syria is crucial to encouraging the voluntary return of displaced Syrians.

Strengthening Ties with Austria

On the bilateral front, Erdogan said Türkiye and Austria should capitalize on existing opportunities in trade and investment, adding that both sides are committed to advancing economic cooperation and strengthening diplomatic ties.
