Türkiye’s Turksat Begins Delivering Internet Access to Syria

Türkiye’s Turksat Begins Providing Internet Access Across War-Torn Syria
July 10, 2025 – Damascus
Türkiye’s state-owned satellite operator Turksat has officially launched internet services in Syria, offering much-needed digital connectivity to communities that have endured years of telecommunications breakdown due to war.
The announcement follows recent bilateral talks held in Damascus between Turkish and Syrian officials.
Turksat, which operates using the Ka-band spectrum for high-speed data transmission, has already installed several satellite terminals at key locations across Syria, prioritizing areas that lack stable infrastructure. The move is expected to help residents reconnect with the world after prolonged isolation.
Rebuilding a Digital Lifeline
Much of Syria’s internet and communication infrastructure was destroyed or suppressed during the country’s civil war. The former Assad regime notoriously restricted online access, attempting to curb the flow of information and limit global visibility of human rights violations.
Now, with Turksat’s support, Syrians are gaining access to reliable internet, along with additional digital services, including:
- TV and radio broadcasting platforms
- E-government infrastructure support
- Emergency communication systems
- Dedicated high-capacity data networks
These offerings mark a major step toward reestablishing communication channels in Syria, especially in areas where fibre-optic and cable infrastructure remain unavailable.
Ongoing Expansion Plans
Turksat stated that the rollout will continue in phases, with plans to install more satellite terminals across the country to widen service coverage and support local reconstruction and governance efforts.
The initiative highlights Türkiye’s growing role in regional connectivity and humanitarian tech infrastructure, using satellite technology to bridge digital divides in post-conflict zones.
