Musk Pushes for New Political Movement to Disrupt the US ‘Uniparty’ System”

“Should we create the America Party?” billionaire asks in new post on US Independence Day

ech billionaire Elon Musk on Friday once again called for disrupting what he described as America’s entrenched “uniparty” system, proposing the creation of a new political movement as an alternative to the country’s dominant two-party structure.

“Independence Day is the perfect moment to ask whether you want independence from the two-party (some might say uniparty) system!” Musk posted on X. “Should we create the America Party?”

His comments come a day after the U.S. House narrowly passed a sweeping tax cut and spending package in a 218-214 vote, sending the legislation to President Donald Trump’s desk.

Focus on key races

Musk suggested that even limited electoral wins could be enough to exert major influence over U.S. politics.

“One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts,” he wrote. “Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring they serve the true will of the people.”

While he did not mention any specific legislation, Musk’s post mirrors earlier warnings that he might help launch a new political party if Congress approved Trump’s so-called “One Big, Beautiful Bill.”

Once allies, now rivals

Musk’s renewed political push also follows weeks of public sparring with Trump. Just last month, the two traded barbs online—an abrupt shift after appearing together at the White House, where Trump had praised Musk for his short tenure heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a post aimed at curbing federal spending.

Musk resigned from that role in late May.

‘America Party’ floated

It’s not the first time Musk has floated the idea of founding a new party. But tying the concept to Independence Day appeared to be a calculated effort to rally public sentiment around what he sees as a necessary break from traditional politics.
